Oscar is a ten-year-old boy battling leukemia who must spend the Christmas season and the end of the year in the hospital. The only person he truly trusts is his caregiver, Granny Rose, under whose guidance he begins writing letters to God and living each passing day as if it were ten years of his life. In those final twelve days of the year, Oscar lives more fully and meaningfully than many do in a lifetime. As Granny Rose reminds us, we often forget that life is fragile and fleeting, yet we act as if we were immortal; these letters help Oscar reconcile with his parents and face his destiny with courage.
